November 2, 2010 Joomdle R0.4 Released
The Joomdle Team is pleased to announce the release of Joomdle R0.4 and it's general availability through the Joomdle download. We are really excited with R0.4, because Joomdle has taken an amazing leap forward by introducing support for Moodle 2.0. And just in case you have been living in a cave without the net, Moodle 2.0 RC1 was released at the end of September and is a major update to Moodle 1.9+ So just after one month, Joomdle is hot on the heals with an update specifically designed to leverage a number of the new features Moodle 2.0 offers.
For a start, and I am sure many of you will be happy to know, connectivity with Moodle no longer requires knowledge of your server's IP address. In fact, the entire method of connecting with Moodle has changed to a Web services architecture, making it simplier to configure Joomdle and ultimately, connect to Moodle. While this is positive, it meant that Joomdle's intergration routines had to be completely rewritten and now that this is done, it will be much easier to create new functions to publish even more Moodle content to your Joomla! community.
Unfortunately, and there always is, with the increased flexibility / functionality that Moodle brings, it also introduces some additional complexity. Given this, we have spend considerable effort updating the Joomdle documentation Wiki . Thus, before you upgrade please ensure you go through the installation instructions carefully.
Now, we didn't stop at making it easier to integrate Moodle 2.0 either. Joomdle R0.4 has also introduced compatibility for Community Builder's login module and ..... wait for it .... the option to syncronise user data from Moodle to Joomla. That's right, now you can use either Joomla's or Moodle's user profile data as the 'master'. Whether it be user registration, profile updates, user creation or user removal - it can all be done from your Moodle platform giving you the best of both worlds. So for those of you who have large Joomla communities who wish to offer some online courses or for those who support an entire campus wide Moodle implementation, Joomdle is right for you. We would like to give special thanks to Fernando Oliveira / K-Net for sponsoring the development of these features.
