Failed install was created by John
New user. Attempting to install Joomdle into a Joomla 2.5.1 site.
Have unzipped the joomdle-07.zip file and used the extension manager to upload and install the joomdle-joomla-package.zip.
I receive the following error message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method JXMLElement::getElementByPath() in /home/content/84/8844084/html/administrator/components/com_joomdle/install/install.php on line 60
Any help appreciated.
TIA.

Hi.
It seems you uploaded the package for J1.5.Download the one for J1.6+ instead.

Thanks, I'll try again in the morning. However, I downloaded the file joomdle-0.7.zip which I thought was the latest version.

I re-downloaded the install package and installed it.
I received two error messages:
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
However, Joomla reported the component installed successfully. So, at least I can now test it inside Joomla.
Thanks.

After installing, I had NO Joomdle component in the component menu. I had followed all the prerequisites, in both the Joomla and Moodle instruction sheets.
Accordingly, I thought I’d uninstall the Joomdle components, plugins, and modules. I did so but now receive the following error messages and cannot even access the Administrator page in the Joomla application.
Warning: require_once(/home/content/84/8844084/html/components/com_joomdle/helpers/content.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/84/8844084/html/plugins/system/joomdlesession/joomdlesession.php on line 16
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/content/84/8844084/html/components/com_joomdle/helpers/content.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5_3/lib/php') in /home/content/84/8844084/html/plugins/system/joomdlesession/joomdlesession.php on line 16
In other words, it seems to have hosed the application…not a good situation.

I was able to bypass the problem by rewriting the joomdlesession.php file which allowed me to access the admin control panel.
Unfortunately, I've wasted too much time on trying to get Joomdle to work with my installation of J2.5.1 and while it seems like a good idea, I'll have to take a pass on using Joomdle.
Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback John. Thus far we have not experienced Joomdle causing lock outs on the admin side since Joomdle went public around 2 years ago.
That said, will look at joomdlesessions to see if there is a check we can perform should it be left installed by mistake.

You're welcome but I wish it weren't necessary. :S I still don't have a handle on why plug-ins and modules installed but not the component itself. However, that was the problem on the install...no component to uninstall so a few residuals were left behind which caused the application to crash...specifically the joomdlesession parameters, but that was, frankly, easy to correct once I realized what was causing the hiccup.
After you complete your upgrades I'll give it another whirl as I do like the idea of combining the two on a website.

Being of the curious sort, I installed a fresh blank version of J 2.5.0 in a sub-folder on my website. Using the extension manager, I attempted to install Joomdle. It installed perfectly.
Accordingly, there's something about my main J 2.5.1 installation that interferes with the Joomdle installation.

As a follow on....I updated the J 2.5.0 test installation to J 2.5.1 and received the following errors:
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
Jommla reports "installing component successful" but there is no Joomdle component installed. The Modules and Plugins are there but no joomdle component.
This is precisely what occured in my main installation. Thus, from this vanatage point it seems that there's something in J 2.5.1 core update that causes the Joomdle installation to fail.
The instalaltion with J 2.5.0 installs Joomdle R07 as expected, but when updated to J 2.5.1, using the same Joomdle R 07 installation package, the installation fails to install the Joomdle component presenting the above error messages.
