Joomla - Moodle, which one to start with? was created by Tiko
Hello guys, my name is tiko. I have a really basic question.
I'm doing my final project for my bachelor thesis and I want to make an open course / e-learning platform for my company where I'm working at the moment. It's not for internal use, but for external. As I got the idea, I was thinking immediately about using Joomla for my project. I've some experience with Joomla (also for a project) and I really loved it. Then I searched for other suggestions and I found that Moodle is more widely spread and specialised for e-learning platform.
My question is, if I want to use Joomdle as my tool to connect / relate my Joomla and Moodle website, which one should I start? Should I first build the Joomla website then Moodle, or reversely? I do really want to have a website that have the beauty of Joomla (also for using their extensions) and the e-learning capability of Moodle.
Thank you guys for your feedback.

You would installl Joomla and Moodle separately, and then connect them with Joomdle.

Dear Antonio, thank you for your answer!
One more thing, how about the theme? With Joomla it is simple to configure the theme, but how about Moodle? Unfortunately I don't have any experience with it. Besides, I don't want to have two various websites, that have so many differences (from the appearance). Do you have maybe (except the demo website) a good example of website that integrated with Moodle and active in use?
Sorry for my dumb questions for the start of the week!

I don't work with templates, so I won't be abe to help you here. Some people create matching templates in Joomla and Moodle, while others prefer to use a simple moodle template in a joomla wrapper (like we have in the demo).
As for sites: you could try searching the forums for urls provided by communuty users. Most won't publish them, though, as they don't want people using their sites for testing.

You can change themes in Moodle just as you can in Joomla. However, it may be a good idea to have Moodle use a very simple theme. Change the Joomla theme as needed though. I am currently messing with the same idea, and I am using Moodle's default theme along with Joomla for its simplicity.
You can find plenty of information about Moodle themes on moodle.org, or youtube.
Good luck...

Thanks for your tips!
I think, first of all, the people have to understand the concept that Joomdle is an extension that wrap the content of Moodle, as Joomla as the frontend (or basically the root). I'm currently messing around with the CSS things, another modules and the content of Moodle. So much fun!

Don't forget there is a very simple Moodle theme with as much navigation stripped as possible here
www.joomdle.com/en/download/other-software
The first item. This Moodle theme is very simple and leave the design to Joomla.

Thanks Chris! That's exactly what I'm using now.. A really good simple theme, very suitable for Joomla+Moodle.

I'm about to install Moodle for the first time and plan on using Joomdle to link to my joomla site.
Following on from Tiko's question I wanted to clarify my understanding on a couple of matters:
1. My Joomla install is on 1 domain but I can install moodle on any other domain I have backend access to and the integration will be fine? i.e joomla on xyz.com and moodle on abc.com
2. I don't plan on using the front end moodle interface just yet so only really need backend access to upload adobe activate material.
3. I will be sending users customised reports generated in MSAccess. To do this I need to download the course data and import into access. Presumably this can be automated? Either setup via moodle backend or a server cron job to e-mail raw DB table data.?
4. First time installation of moodle and joomdle will go to plan first time with not a single hitch, after which I will be asking myself why I haven't done this sooner?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.
