VirtueMart Integration was created by Ron Wells
Hello - it has been 6 months since I checked out Joomdle and it has come a long way. Great Job!

Quick question on the VirtueMart integration.

Will the user be able to select / register for multiple classes and then go through the PayPal check out process once - paying once for the sum of all the classes selected?

Background: For our classes, many students take 4 to 7 classes each semester. Using simple Moodle Paypal checkout requires the parent / student to sign into PayPal up to 7 times per student to register - once for each class. Because of the duplicate payments being made over a very short period of time, sometimes PayPal will suspend the Student / Parent's account thinking it is fraud after the first few classes. For Parents with multiple students, they sometimes have to go through the PayPal checkout system over 20 times to register all of their students.

If the integration with VirtueMart allows the parent / student to register for all their classes and then go through the checkout / PayPal payment process once - this would be a huge improvement over standard Moodle PayPal.

Thanks again,
Ron

Hi. In short, yes :)

With Virtuemart (or Tienda) you just need to pay (and go to paypal) once, paying for all the selected courses at the same time.

This is a great feature of Joomdle. Please do not underestimate how important this is for schools similar to us. Providing a "Moodle Shopping Cart" is a huge step forward. This feature alone could drive many to Joodle. It has two benefits:

1. It makes the class registration process much more simple for the parents.
2. It saves the school money through reducing the "cost per transaction" fee for PayPal.

Thanks again!

We don't underestimate :)
The first goal when we started integrating Moodle with Joomla'a shopping cart software, was to provide an easier way to sell Moodle courses.

We already have deployed a number of course shops using Joomdle with Virtuemart Integration.

I did not know anyone with a similar process like yours, so thanks for the feedback.

Which cart program do you recommend? VirtueMart or Tienda. Looking for something simple. Our shopping cart would only be for the classes - ~50 to 70 in total - and maybe a yearbook, school t-shirt, etc. Only need PayPal checkout.

Thanks,
Ron

As for using them on a day to day basis, I don't know, as I don't really use them myself on production, only implement them for our clients.

As for Joomdle. Virtuemart has been more tested, because it has been present for some versions now.

Tienda integration has been just released. Although we have tested it in-house, we have not deployed it to any of our clients yet.

Both shops can mix course and not course products in the same order, using Joomdle integration.

On the technical side, Virtuemart is quite old, while Tienda is being actively developed right now.

Just to add to this. Personally I use VM today and sell physical products beyond the courses. I started testing Tienda in the early days and am working with the team on some migration tools and multi-location shipping options. Once these are ready, I will switch my sites across as it is cleaner and easier to integrate. Of course, this assumes that the VM team do not pull a rabbit out of the hat. I notice they have recently released a 1.1.5 and 1.5 beta - doesn't work for me though. Perhaps the 1.5 will fix the problems VM customers have been having for years?? Either way from a Joomdle perspective we plan to work with both so the choice really comes down to what serves you best.
