There are in Moodle this list in first page (example):

I think that this is a good structure to have in Joomdle. What do you think? If you pass me the instruction, I can help you do implement this.

If you want to give it a try at implementing it, you could start by creating a new view from the cousecategory view, copying the folder and renaming everything that needs it.
Then it would be a matter of cycling through all the categories. To know available categories, look at code in the coursecategories view.
Basically it is a matter of joining coursecategories and coursecategory views into a new one.
Ask me if you find any problems trying, although I will be out until Monday.

Hi again. I went ahead and coded a new view like we talked.
