Can't Login To Moodle From Old Joomla Session

Sometimes I come across an old Joomla session where I'm still logged in. When I click to go over to the moodle, it won't work anymore. Any idea as to why? I'm wondering if it's because the Moodle session has expired, and for some reason Joomdle can no longer make the connection? Of course I can just logout and back in, but my students get confused.

Joomla and Moodle sessions are independent.

If you keep using a Joomla session, but not the Moodle one, Moodle session will expire while Joomla session is still alive.

We have a plugin to solve this: joomdlesession. It is disabled by default, as it slows the system a bit: it works by updating Moodle session every time Joomla session is updated, so it has to conect to Moodle in every page load, thus adding overhead.

Also, you should have the same time for sessions in Joomla and Moodle. If Joomla session is longer, it may be still active while Moodle one has ended.

Moodle has usually a longer session than Joomla, so this is probably not the probem.

Only other thing I can think of is a problem with URLs. Are you redirecting www.ste.com to site.com or viceversa?
If not, you may be changing domains without noticing.

For some reason, Joomla users don't get logged out of the front end after the Joomla session time should have expired. I suppose if that was working, I wouldn't have this problem. Does Joomdle cause this issue?

Not that I know: no one else has reported this problem before.

If you can set up a mirror site, you could disable joomdle plugins (joomdlehooks and joomdlesession) and test if the no expiration problem persits.
