500 or 505 error - how can I fix it? was created by Massimo
Hi everybody,
I'm going crazy trying to solve this riddle! I really hope you can help me. I have installed Joomla 3.4.8, Moodle 2.9.1 and Joomdle 1.0.5.
I have created some users too (some from Joomla side and some others from Moodle side), and at the beginning, a couple of months ago, everything seemed to work fine. Suddenly, a couple of weeks ago, something has changed. If I try to log-in as user from the Joomla side (with a user that is registered in Joomla/Moodle and, automatically, in Joomdle), the system stops working for 90 seconds. After the 90 seconds, I receive an error message ("500 internal server error") and, by looking at the apache-log, I can read this 6-long-lines-message:
[Thu Mar 03 11:27:33.120626 2016] [fcgid:warn] [pid 29364:tid 140492798945024] [client 81.31.147.86:47196] mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /usr/local/directadmin/data/users/upwhpcdy/php/fcgid/fcgid55.sh /usr/local/directadmin/data/users/upwhpcdy/php/php55.ini -d sendmail_from="upwhpcdy@snakkemedmax.net" -d open_basedir="/home/upwhpcdy/:/tmp:/var/tmp:/usr/local/php55/lib/php/" -d mail.log="/home/upwhpcdy/.php/php-mail.log"

[Thu Mar 03 11:27:58.925408 2016] [fcgid:warn] [pid 29259:tid 140492641597184] [client 81.31.147.86:47195] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 90 seconds
[Thu Mar 03 11:27:58.925432 2016] [core:error] [pid 29259:tid 140492641597184] [client 81.31.147.86:47195] End of script output before headers: land.php
My provider says that the memory space is not enough, but I'm incline not to trust this explanation, because some months ago, with the same features, the system worked well.
What can I do? Thank you very much!
Massimo

We have only come across this message once before around 9 months back. The person has not left a final cause of it but you can read the thread regardless.

Hi Chris,
thank you very much for your answer. I've carefully read all the messages in the other topic, but I still don't have enough tools to solve my problem.
I've checked again all the numbers in my provider, and it really doesn't seem to be a problem with space availability (and I don't have so many users or so many courses uploaded in moodle!).
I'm going to try to reduce the number of courses linked to the test-user, and see what happens; do you have any other suggestion?
Thank you again!

Not really aside from looking hard at what has changed since the time it was working. Do you have any backups from that time? Restore to a different directory & database and compare. This don't break by themselves with regards to code. Be mindful however sometimes the change in code is not the obvious. If you / hosting provider are constantly updating OS, CPanel, etc. then there are some unknowns that can influence the environment.
