[Solved] Plugins not Installed. Manually Install? was created by Jon Neubauer
I am working on a clients site - my first time with Joomdle.
I had several problems installing both Joomla and Moodle as well as other components due to weird file permissions settings they had set up.
After a lot of frustration I finally got Joomdle installed, but it seems the plugins were not installed for some reason. Is there any way to manually install those now?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi.
You have a package for manual installation in sourceforge repository.

Ok, so I downloaded the manual files and tried uploading them into Joomla, but its not working.
Every time I get the following errors:
Warning! Failed to move file.
Unable to find install package
In looking around to see what might be the problem some people said that it may be file permissions where the directories are not writable - but thats not it, they are all writable. Others said that it may be that php is running in safe mode - but thats not it either, I checked.
Any ideas on what might be stopping these plugins from being uploaded/installed?
Thanks,
Jon

Hi.
I guess if you cannot install a joomdle plugin alone, you won't be able to install others plugins either.
Is that right?

correct - I tried installing other unrelated plugins/components with the same results.
So I guess this is more a Joomla question than a Joomdle question but I am at a loss to figure out whats wrong. I've looked all over the Joomla forums and other sites.
Thanks,
Jon

That is the same I was thinking
Sorry for no helping here, but from here I cannot think of any other problem beyond the permissions issue.

It sounds like you are having permission problems still. During installation you will either need to ensure you give 777 access to a number of directories. Alternatively, you may use FTP for installation depending how you have configured Joomla and originally installed Joomla. Do a search in the Joomla forum for directory permissions.

Don't know what directories I could still be having permissions issues with though.
I've scoured the Joomla forums as wella s the forums and posts on other sites.
Just about every directory is now 777 as far as permissions go. I used to be getting permissions errors but now I don't get them, it just says the file cannot be moved and there was an install component error.

OK. There are only a few reasons why Joomla extensions would not get installed:
- not enough permissions to write to the directory(s)
- not enough memory to upload the file. this is overcome many times by using FTP to load the file to the joomla tmp directory and installing from there
- Cannot find the install.xml file which could be because of a bad installation package or the extension package is still in a compressed format for distribution and requires unzipping for installation. note install packages are also compressed so I am talking about two layers of compression. Given your error message this would be my first point of checking.
You may wish to check this thread as it has solved many problems related to yours

Others that seem to be common
