Beta Testing comments - User Sync issue

Testing Joomdle BETA R0.3 and have noticed that when I go to Joomdle component -> users -> sync user profile - it deletes First Name, Surname, and email address. Since this information comes from Joomla and not JomSocial - didn't see a way to map this info using the tool. Note it was populated correctly before running the sync user profile tool.

One concern I have is that Joomla only stores "name" and not separate first and last. In order to correctly map to Moodle, would need the ability to select letter before space as first name, and letter after space as surname - assuming user followed this way of entry. As a side note - some of our parents like to register their students as First Middle Last or First Middle-Initial Last. This messes up the conversion to Moodle either way.

Best practice going forward could be to ask user to enter this information in JomSocial (or CB) during registration process. That way it could be mapped straight out of either of these tables instead of Joomla user table.

Thanks Ron. I think you are correct. Where Jomsocial or CB exist, we should assume registration is done there (or those profiles) leveraged to sync to Moodle rather than Joomla. Where CB or Jomsocial does not exist the User Name should be sync to the last name in Moodle as there is no way we can tell. Over here we not only cater for first name - last name, first name initial last name but also:
- first name (no last name like indonesia)
- last name first name like china
- first name two middle names last name like western version of chinese names (singapore)

There is no way to know unless we spell it out during registration using CB or Jomsocial.

Hi Ron.

When you say it deletes the info, do you mean that after syncing profiles, it is left blank?

Are the user Joomla accounts not filled with name and email info?

I'm experiencing the same problem.

Whem i register a user in Joomla it "looses" the email and first name of the user.

Then when you try to enrol in any course it always asks you to give more details about your self over and over again.

Did you found a solution yet to this situation?

Thanks to u all

Hi.

This topic was about using the user migration tool.

If you are experiencing problems with normal user creation, please open a new thread with a detailed explanation of the problem you are experiencing.

Antonio - sorry for long time between replies - before running the user sync tool, both Joomla and Moodle name and email were populated correctly. After running user sync tool, the moodle name and email were erased.
