Prepaid & Pay Online Enrollment

I'm trying to work out the best setup for the following scenario.

We have a course that we want to enrol students into through 1 of 2 ways...

1. They find, pay for and enrol for the course online though jmoodle

2. They pay for and enrol in the course in a classroom environment and then need to enrol online to the course (and preferably a moodle group) but without payment.

I have the 1st option setup through virtuemart but am having trouble working out the best way to get the second option working. I was hoping to perhaps have the request course function run along side the purchase course, but this doesn't seem to happen.

Some form of setup with the enrolment keys is the other path I have gone down but I am unsure how to get this working and am open to suggestion here also.

Because they are attending a physical class, I think you will two options:
1) Provide an enrollment key as you have suggested. This can further be done in two ways: A a unique enrollment key for each student or a general one for the class. The challenge is keeping it a secret. If it is per student than it is a one time enrollment key.
2) Add the student ID to the course manually.

Either way, there will be some degree of administration.

So, my first thoughts would be how many classes & how many students?
Is security important?
Are teachers allowed to manage enrollment?
Will you have ppl who can do the administration or must this be fully automated?

At this point there is not at lot of students or classes - just 1 or 2 running at any one time with up to 20 students in each.

I will be doing the administration of the online side but the courses are run in the other countries so I would like to be able to provide access to the course, but have them do their own signup and account setup so I was going down the enrolment key path and looking at a key for each class to auto enrol them into their own group.

I will generally have a list of those that are part of the course and if people started enrolling without being authorised I could spot and remove them fairly easily.

If I went in this direction what would be the easiest way to have it setup with joomdle?

Perhaps than the easiest method would be to create a coupon code for each class. This coupon would be given to students to sign up with. You would define the value of the coupon, eg. 50% of the purchase price or 100% of the purchase price if it is free.

We have not done any work yet with the coupon codes in VM or Tienda so cannot say for sure what problems you will encounter. I suspect there would be need to be a custom modification to the payment module to make this work. We will respond again shortly.

As above. To allow this to work with VM would require some custom development. It should work out of the box with Tienda but it has not been tested at this time.
