System Health Check results was created by Bob Singletary
Very close to getting Joomdle installed in our Joomla/Moodle 2.0 environment but trying to resolve a couple of issues in the Health Check. The first one relates to XML-RPC failing the check and I suspect we need to check our Joomla server's PHP config (we are good on the Moodle server). However, my question is more around a second issue: "Joomdle Web Services" does not appear at all in the list. Any idea why it would not show up at all?

The more I look at this issue, the more I suspect it is related to the fact that XML-RPC is currently failing and therefore the Moodle instance is not being discovered. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Yes. This is the first thing to check. Since you are running J1.5, check these two things:

www.joomdle.com/wiki/Prerequisites

For xmlrpc you will need to have 5 or 6 references to "xmlrpc" in the php info listing.

Thanks Chris, we are working on that now and I am hopeful that will take care of the issue. Will follow up if it doesn't.

Indeed, once we got the XML-RPC properly enabled on the PHP side of our Joomla server, the health check passed and Joomdle Web Services appeared. Now, it seems like parts of the integration with JomSocial are working, but others not. I'll start with a few as they could be causing a number of the other issues:

1) When trying to access Users from the Joomdle Control Panel on the Joomla backend, get the following message: XML-RPC Error (623): Calling parameters do not match signature (saw a few forum posts referencing this message, but couldn't seem to find any resolution noted)
2) No Moodle events are showing up in the activity stream (what does work is that JS Toolbar Courses menus do find enrolled courses and launches Moodle in a small wrapper, but can't seem to change the size of that or have it open in a new window even when changing that setting in Configuration)
3) Search seems to be working although the results provide no links to the course (is that normal behavior?).
4) Nothing is listed under Data Mapping nor can I add any additional mappings.

Running Joomdle 0.5
Joomla! 1.5.23
JomSocial 2.2.0
Moodle 2.0.1+ Build: 20110217

Thought we had everything set up on both sides per instructions, but must have missed something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Sorry for the long delay. I have been trying a few of these things which required me to set up another test site. So far I am not experiencing the same problems as you.

The first thing, should have asked earlier, what is your Jomsocial version?

For your 2,3 & 4 - this is not normal behaviour. You can see from our demo site that we have posts to our activity stream and our search provides links. That said, what are you expecting links to?

I do have a new Joomdle 0.52 which we have not released but has a few fixes and enhancements for Web servers. The only problem with you using it at this point is that Antonio is out of town for another 1.5 weeks and I will not be able to provide detailed technical support on it.

If you want it let me know.

Yes Chris, it is JomSocial 2.2.0 and we have applied the patch with no luck. Just re-emerging after a four-day Moodle virtual conference, so I'll get back on the troubleshooting and let you know what we find out on our side. Thx again.

Chris/Antonio or anyone who might know, we have only been able to get so far with our Joomdle implementation. In review, here is our environment:
  • Joomdle 0.5
  • Joomla! 1.5.23
  • JomSocial 2.2.0
  • Moodle 2.0.2+ Build: 20110504
  • Heath Check status: All items passed

What does appear to be working:
  • JomSocial is "aware" of Moodle courses a user is enrolled in. We can launch the course in the wrapper although the wrapper height configuraton setting has no impact and Moodle is displayed in a frame that is much too small. For now, changed setting to open it in another window, but would prefer the wrapper option.
  • No Moodle activities showing up in the JomSocial activity stream.
  • Nothing displaying on Joomdle or can be added under control panel Mappings and Profile Types.
  • On control panel Users settings, get a XML-RPC Error (623): Calling parameters do not match signature (and again, note that System Health Check passed)

Could really use some assistance here...not sure what else to check at this point and we really need to get this integration working for a proof of concept.

Hi.

- Wrapper: do you have moodle and joomla on different domains? Wrapper auto-height does not work in that scenario.

- You just said jomsocial is aware of courses, so I guess you mean that jomsocial activities appear when a new course is added or a user enrols. Those are the only activities supported at the moment.

- Don't know what you mean with "Nothing displaying on Joomdle or can be added under control panel Mappings and Profile Types."

- The 623 error is more strange, we have not received any reports of a similar error, and R0.51 has been out for a while. Do you really use 0.5? You should try 0.51.

Hi Antonio,
  • OK, Joomla! and Moodle are on different domains, so that explains that issue.
  • What I mean by aware of courses is if we select any options from the My Courses menu, any courses in which the user is enrolled can be seen. We see nothing at all in the JomSocial activity stream (i.e. when a new course is created or user enrolls). Also, no JomSocial groups get created when a course is created in Moodle.
  • When accessing the Joomdle control panel Mappings or Profile Types options, nothing is listed there and when using the Add button to add anything (Mappings or Profile Types), nothing displays (see attached).
  • Actually, I did see others post about the 623 error elsewhere in the forums. www.joomdle.com/en/forum/r05-support/441...ameters-do-not-match .
  • Finally, when any Joomdle info displays, it has a prefix of "CJ" in front (see attached). Any way to remove that or otherwise customize those names? We have looked but haven't found an obvious way to do that.

Many thanks for your help.
