Mapping moodle groups was created by Fernando Acedo
Hi all,

I would like to enrol students to a group inside a moodle course. Is there any method to do it?

As far I know, you can map Joomla groups to moodle roles (no course groups) but I don't know if possible to map the course group.

Thanks in advance

Hi Fernando.

This is not possible currently. Can you explain how would you like this to work?

Yes, of course.

Actually the client upload the students with a CSV file to moodle. This file includes the moodle group to be enroled.

We are adding Joomla with Joomdle to improve some features that moodle don't offer and then raised this question. Since Joomla has the user control, how can we add the students to a specific group after enrolement.

I found a workaround but I need to test it. Upload the CSV file to moodle as they do now and then synchronize the students to Joomla. I hope it will work.

But for the future, it would be great to have some way to add the group in the enrolment. I will think on it.

Thanks Antonio

Does your workaround work? My gut feel is no, because even when you synchronize Joomdle does not know about groups.

I think an appropriate solution would be
1) Create same group name in both Moodle and Joomla. Upload csv file into Moodle including group information. When synchronize from Moodle, perhaps two buttons normal sync and sync with groups or better to have configuration option to say use Groups.
2) An Alternative way, would be to upload into Joomdle itself so that the user is created in Joomla with the password and added to both Moodle and Joomla groups (with same name). Again for ongoing adhoc user registration you would want to have a configuration option that says to sync with Groups.

Of course both options would require some development but I think the important consideration will be to have the configuration option to say use Groups or not. And perhaps next time there could be 'Group Mapping"
