Moodle suddenly logs me out!

Hi,

I have a Joomdle system working and everything was fine, some pages do not have any moodle components being displayed and some do. So sometimes when I was looking at pages that do have a moodle component, like a quiz, it shows the screen of "Home > Login to the site" with the message of "Returning to this web site?". It seems like Moodle logged me out but Joomla is still keeping me as logged in.

Does anyone have this issue? Does this have to do with sessions setting on Moodle and Joomla? Because these 2 systems are already set to "2 hours" before timeout. Will it be an issue of those 2 systems not synchronized properly?

Hi Corey,

My first three thoughts are:

1) Like you have said, session timing. Personally I would set both to be the same time. I am not sure if Joomdle plugins will keep the Moodle session open automatically indefinitely. They are system plugins therefore logically they could. So far in my experience, and also based on posts in the forum, this has not been an issue. So I would assume that the plugins are keeping the sessions alive. This question we will need to wait for Antonio to respond re the plugin's capabilities.

2) Do you notice that this happens on any particular page consistently or random pages? Check the url when the timeout happens. Do you log into www.xxxxxx.com and then suddendly when out of moodle not longer in www but instead in xxxxx.com? When this happens, go back to the Joomdle home page to ensure you are logged into Joomdle. Then go to Moodle (not the page you were at at when the problem existed) and see if you are logged in.

3) Do you use the same computer / rowser to log as a student and a Moodle admin / teacher? Moodle can get confused if you do this.

Thanks a lot for your insights on what possibly cause that to happen. Really appreciate it.

1) Good to know about this and perhaps this is not the cause as you said, based on posts in the forum.

2) The site actually has a redirect to make "www" to "non-www", so from the first time you enter the site and as you navigate to pages, you'll always be on pages without www.

3) This can really be the cause because I do use same computer to log in as student and teacher at times. But I use different browsers though (students on IE and teacher on Chrome, for example). Will Moodle get confused even if the 2 roles are logged in in 2 different types of browsers??

No if you use two browsers eg IE for teachers and chrome for student then you should be OK. So my three thoughts are now exhausted. Just a quick obvious one to eliminate - you have enabled all the joomdle plugins?

Do you mean the ones on attached screenshot? Actually only 1 is enabled from the list. Do you think that is the reason?

Hi.

The joomdlesession plugin is the one responsible for updating Moodle session when you are working on Joomla.
It is not enabled by default, as it makes a call to Moodle on every Joomla page load, thus slowing things down a bit.
You can enable it and see if it solves your issue.
