Joomla groups not syncing with moodle

In Joomdle configuration, in joomla admin area, in the "joomla user groups" I set Teachers and Students to the groups from my joomla that I want to be teachers and students, but when I set a joomla user to the joomla group I set, they do not get assigned the role in moodle.

For example on my joomla site there is a group called "Gold Membership" when a user registers for my site and is set to that group, I want them to be automatically be set to the teacher role in moodle. But this isn't happening even though I set Teachers Group to Gold Membership.

Are there any settings other than Joomla user groups settings in joomdle configuration, in joomla admin, to get moodle to add the users to their roles?

Currently I have to set the users manually after they have registered. Very time consuming.

That's not how it works, it's the other way around

When you enrol into a course as student, you are put in the Students Group in Joomla.

As for adding users to roles: students and teachers roles are course-based, so you cannot just "add the users to the roles"
