Hey everyone,

I am very new to joomla and moodle, and joomdle isn't going so well! I would like to do two things and I hope someone can help:

1. Create a private login (details sent to the user via email) in joomla which directly connects to moodle.

2. Make the tabs in Joomla appear in Moddle

3. Create user profiles connected to moddle but using joomla

Thank you

Hi there,

Once you have configured Joomdle to work with Joomla and Moodle, a user / student will automatically be connected (logged into) Moodle when they log into Joomla. This is called SSO. Whether or not the details are sent to the user is a matter of how you set up Joomla. Joomdle does not perform the registration process, instead it rides on the back of Joomla. When a new user is created in Joomla, Joomdle will kick in to set up the user in Moodle.

Having the tabs in Moodle is not something that is provided nor something that anybody else has requested. Normally it is the other way around ie Moodle stuff appearing in Joomla. The primary objective of Joomdle is to make Joomla the house and Moodle a room (say the study) within that house. The implication is that Joomla's menu system would be visible to the student who then links through to take a course in Moodle.

User profiles created in Joomla (or one of Joomla's 3rd party extensions such as CB, Jomsocial, VM, etc.) will be synchronized with Moodle allowing for centralised user data management. This is just a matter of setting the options on the Joomdle configuration page.

Thank you!

I am very sorry for my spelling in the previous message! Yes I think I was missing a critical stage, setting up the login and user profile on joomla first. I will search how to do this. Another question, is the centralized user plugin free? I know joomsocial is quite expensive and I was wondering if you could recommend a good free plugin?

Thank you!

Olympias

You really need to look through the JED to see what user profile systems exist as every company has their own needs and thus the choice will depend on that. What I can say is that for user profiles Joomdle integrates with CB (free), Jomsocial (paid), Joomla's inbuilt user extended profile (free), user profiles from VM (free), Hikashop (free and paid) plus the various subscription management systems Ambra (paid), AEC (paid), Akeebabackup (free), Payplans (paid).

Note: When I say paid, I mean those extensions are paid not Joomdle integration is paid.

Dear Chris,

Thank you again for your service. I guess I will tackle centralized user profiles once I can get joomdle working correctly! I have installed a login form on my joomla 2.5 admin site. I created a user in joomla. When I use the details of the user to log into the joomla supported website, an error occurs (blank page with errors) Do I need to connect this login with moodle? Do I need to publish something in joomdle to activate the login there too?

I would also like to have my login at the menu bar like you have done on this website!

P.s.: Is the paypal link a donation link? It's great that you help and support us for free!

You will need to report what the errors are to help us otherwise it is rather difficult. Blank screens can be caused by many things depending on your setup but many times are related to php fatal errors and you should enable Joomla debug mode to get the details of the error. If you do a search on this forum for blank you see others have discussed this.

That said, I am not sure why you would be installing a login form on your admin side when it has one by default. Unless you are doing it for security to use a different login. If so, I would recommend you only do this when everything else on your site is working as you can lock yourself out of your admin section. Perhaps you meant login form on the Joomla front end.

For login on the menu bar, this is a function of the menu / template that you choose to implement. Nothing to do with Joomdle.

Yes the paypal link is used for donations (so it doesn't need to be free) and also for those who paid for Joomdle's services.

Yes, I installed the login form on the front end for registered users. When I test it, I can redirected to a blank page. I do not know why it does not automatically bring the test user onto the moodle website. Also, the user login details that I use for the joomla front end site does not relate to the login details of moodle, I have to create a user again for the moodle site. I will also write to my host providers who installed joomdle for me.

Thank you

Your host provider installed Joomdle? Do you mean Joomdle or Joomla? If Joomdle, yes ask them to install it correctly. If Joomla, you should not use the cpanel / Fantastico auto installers. These will certainly cause you problems down the road event without Joomdle.

Back you your blank screen, you still have not provided the error message that you said is shown. You will need to enter debug mode to get more details on the error. With the error messages there is nothing much we can help with.

If you are having no luck with your servers or your hosting provider, you are welcome to engage the Joomdle team by sending an email to development@joomdle.com
