user data fields are not updated in Moodle from Joomla

When creating a new user in Joomla, syncing it via the Joomla-syn module the user is created in the Moodle database,
but no user data appears to be synchhronised.
How do I perform a data mapping between J & M? eg First name, Surname etc. None of these are sysnchronised via this route (create in Joomla, sync with Moodle via Joomdle)

Am I missing something?

Is system check all green? What have you selected as additional data source? Did you create any mappings?

additional datasource is Jomsocial; maybe it's the last -non-green systemcheck that troubles me; (see other forum issue Joomla URL seems to be ..)
I did not yet create any mappings

You should resolve any errors before you progress to other stuff. If there are reported errors than you are likely to find a problem somewhere along the way.

As for the field mapping, if you have not created any mappings then the fields cannot be mapped. So I suggest 1) fix any errors, 2) map your fields so data can be synchronized.
