Can the Joomdle certificate module work with the Simple Certificate plugin? We tried a regular installation but had no luck. Perhaps there is an easy hack that someone could recommend?

I have not tried it, and no one around here asked until now. I guess it will need some work.
I will move this to Feature Requests, so I can have a look at it when I have some time.
