Hi.
Both Joomla and Moodle have features that allow plugins to be discovered, installed and updated from within the application.
Unfortunately, Joomdle doesn't use these features; we have to manually download the main zip file, unzip it and install the plugins for both systems from there.
It seems to me that all it would need would be for the Moodle and Joomla components to be shipped separately instead of bundled into a single zip, and then it should be possible for you to set things up so it can use the auto-install and auto-update features. This would make things a lot easier to manage -- eg we'd get update notifications in the admin panels so we wouldn't have to keep checking to see if there was a new version.
I appreciate that this would be a big change in your release strategy, but it would make your software a lot easier to install and manage.

It took us more time that it should, but we finally included auto-updater funcionality for Joomla in 1.0.8, so you will be able to upgrade to next release automatically.
In Moodle it was possible some time ago.

Hi Antonio.
Yay, that's awesome news. Thank you
I know how you feel about it taking longer than it should -- I've written a few extensions of my own, and I've found the Joomla! documentation is really not very good at explaining how to setup your plugin for auto updates. It's bad enough that I haven't bothered with it at all, so I really appreciate the effort you've made to support it. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments.
You may want to check docs again, as finally it was not so hard, as long as you use Akeeba's ARS. But I agree with you: first time I looked into it, it seemed so difficult that I thought: they sure will change this soon, so why bother
Well, time passed, and it did not change that much, but I think docs are better now.
If you decide to try it and have any doubts, just let me know and I will try to help.
