[Closed] Concept: Moodle Categories xfer to shopping cart was created by Ron Wells
Problem: Today we are using the Tienda shopping cart system. It appears that all of the courses are copied into only one category in Tienda. We have almost 100 courses so it turns into a large group of courses. Students and Parents have to page though many to find the right ones.
Joomdle solution: Allow shopping cart category AND sub-categories to map to Moodle "Course Categories". For example, all of the math classes in the Moodle course category would be placed into a sub-category called math in Tienda, etc.
Thanks for considering,
Ron

Hi there.
I know it would better to have it done automatically, but in the meantime I think you can do it manually.
After creating the products in Tienda with Joomdle, you can go to Tienda and add categories to the products (don't remove original "Courses" category).
I think you can even unpublish origianl "courses" category, so that users only see the real categories.

Do you know - will the course continue to be in sync after changing the categories in Tienda? i.e. if we update the description or price in Moodle - will it still be passed through?

As long as you maintain it in the Courses category too, I think it works.
Just don't remove it from the default catgory, only add it to the new one.

Finished testing - this works. You can manually create the categories in Tienda and then select / associate the courses that are auto populated in Tienda. If you un-publish the main category in Tienda that Joomdle populates, it will only show the new categories and associated courses for each category. Looks like courses stay in sync.
One item to note - if the "course enrollable" is set to "No" in moodle course settings, suggest that the course is set to "not published" in Joomdle and/or Tienda shop.
