Enterprise Learning Intelligence System- Joomdle Integration was created by Ron Wells
Is anyone on the forum using the ELIS student information system by remote-learner?

Over the next few months I'll be looking at incorporating this into our Moodle install. It would be interesting to see if it is possible to show Joomdle/Joomla Menu items for some of ELIS reporting features like user transcripts, course progress report, certificates, Learner Plan, Learner dashboard, etc.
Thoughts?

As a highly flexible and well supported system, ELIS is widely used in a variety of learning programs. ELIS is a set of add-ons to standard Moodle, these add-ons provide the administrative, business intelligence, data mining, learning management, content management, and longitudinal record keeping functions that standard Moodle does not provide.

I looked at this some time back and spoke with the developers. At the time they were not releasing the code for Moodle via open source / GNL and thus went away from such an integration. I looked at OpenSIS and a few others as well. At this point I have tactically made a custom integration between Joomla and opensis which hooks in Moodle through the Joomla - Moodle link. I stopped short of making this a production solution after some thoughts about rebuilding the entire opensis in Joomla as the long term it would probably require less effort especially considering at least 20-30% of an opensis type solution is user / profile management which is already a part of joomla.
I probably wont pick up the project again until the end of the year.

Chris - If you are going to work on this, I will hold off on ELIS or OpenSIS integration and wait for what you develop. More than likely we would only use a small % of what either platform does anyway. That said, we would be happy to help fund part of this effort if that could bring it up in your priority queue as well. For us, the priority for "OpenSIS functionality" would be with:
1. Student scheduling
2. Transcripts
3. Report cards
Most of the other OpenSIS functions seem to be covered with some extent or another already in either Joomla, Joomdle (Shop / Profile Type integration, etc.), or Moodle. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Ron

Are you looking at the automated scheduling as I understand many of the tools do not really do this well anyway. It is not something that I personally require.
From your first post, I read it as though you had already "purchased" ELIS? Have you used this already?

Chris - we do not need automated scheduling. We prefer to schedule manually but need a way of showing each student their assigned class schedule. Also, we did not purchase ELIS. They have a OSS community version that I was looking at.
Based on the interest in the Moodle forums for folks needing schedules, repot cards, and transcripts - there may be good interest in providing a solution based on Joomla / Joomdle for this...
<edit> I changed the subject title to best reflect intent...

Thanks. I didn't realise they had released the community version already - I have not visited their site nor spoken with them for awhile.
Also, it is worth noting that while I have the need for this for my own business, I do not have the time frame for its "release", nor have I completed the full functional specs. I still do not know how it would be "supported" in the long term too. Ie whether this is something we can support through joomdle in terms of resources. This is my intention but still need to finalise it all. What I do know is:
- it would need to be a separate extension rather than blowing up joomdle
- it would leverage / integrate with joomdle to connect with moodle
- it would have student, parent and teacher interfaces
- it would need to support mobile devices such as ios and andriod
- J2.5+ only
- integration with jomsocial, commerce (say VM but shouldn't matter), perhaps joomla XI multi-profile and graphical reporting tools.
I have a list of key features that I can share privately if you like. At this point I have not shared publicly as I do not wish to set the wrong expectations :)h
