problem solved here, i found a similar issue on the virtuemart forums due to the checkout scripts not generating a download email on confirmation of the order. topic here http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=82513.msg272120#msg272120
other versions of the checkout scripts are over there (register on forum to access)
now joomdle is doing it's thing very nicely.
