This time.....it turned out to be an apostrophe in a user email.

Interestingly - Moodle will allow this but Joomla will not. Since we are uploading users directly into Moodle (a result of all my other pains ) things get ugly because Moodle allows the user in.

Of course, if you try to put that user in Joomla first - Joomla gives you an error right away.

Great to know that you found the problem, thank for sharing the final cause.

I don't know if there is a way in Moodle to warn you of theses cases, or to make Joomla work with them.
