Newbie questions.... was created by Ivy
Hello Antonio and everyone,
Good day to all of you. I am new to Joomdle and I have some questions:
1. I have moodle installed in the root directory /home/mathedve/public_html and the Joomla website installed inside /home/mathedve/public.html/thelearningweb.me. The domain thelearningweb.me is a separate domain, I registered for the name separately from the directory domain in which moodle is currently sitting in. The main website is sitting in a sub folder inside the public_html folder. How will this affect my use of Joomdle? :(
2. When I tried to install auth_joomdle.zip plugin into Moodle ver 2. I was prompted to select a plugin type. Which plugin type should I choose? :silly:
3. I am only interested in SSO between Joomla and Moodle. After signing in from Joomla frontend, I want users to see Moodle in Moodle framework and not Moodle content inside Joomla`s framework. Can Joomdle do this? I`m interested in loose integration.
4. I have not decided on which shopping cart to use. Can I install Joomdle for Joomla and Moodle first and install VM later? In the documentation, I need to install the shopping cart before Joomdle in Joomla. People in the likes of me can`t make up our minds. I am actually more in favor of using DT Register for event sign-up and registration rather than VirtueMart but it seems that Joomla and plugin partners like Joomdle prefers VM.
Thanks in advance....

1. Joomdle does not care about your folder structure.
2. Auth
3. Yes
4. Yes, you can do it later.
As for prefering one thing over another: we work on what people want. So far, many people uses VM and Joomdle, but no one asked for a DT Register - Joomdle integration.

Thanks Antonio for the reply. It's good to know that Joomdle is not dependent on folder set up. That was my chief concern after reading documentations for JFusion. :side:
I read Ron Well's sharing in the Experiences and Stories section of the forum and learned that Hikashop is an option. That is good information because Hikashop's user interface looks more user friendly than VM. DT Register is a Joomla plugin for event/course registration. I have decided to study and work out the shopping cart solution first before installing Joomdle. I have also decided to implement a tight integration instead of a loose integration like what I mentioned earlier. I was worried that Moodle content won't look right when encased in Joomla frame but this requires experimentation and tweeking.
I am curious: If a parent/adult pays for a course, am I right to assume that he/she is registered into Moodle instead of the child? How is the child/student registered?
In a separate project, I am on the lookout of a possible solution to host a MOOC. If the shopping cart can be configured to accept 0 payment, 0 tax and 0 shipping, I think this Joomla, Joomdle, Moodle arrangement will work but then, such solutions are up to the institution and department to decide. I have little say.

I have a question about the folder structure related to MySQL. because I notice that I had to make one table for for joomla and another one for moodle. So my question is how these two get related or interact when I have users? can joomla users have access to the moodle and the other way around?
where can I read more about this.
Thanks

Moodle not showing when user sign in.
1. testuser4 was created in Joomla. He automatically created in Moodle.
2. I added him to a course in Moodle manually.
3. When he logs into Joomla, he does not see Moodle. He sees only the Joomla website
4. When I open a new browser window and navigate to Moodle, he is logged in.
5. When he logs out of Moodle, he is directed to the Joomla login home page.
6. I sometimes see the invalid token error.
Help appreciated. My folder structure is not normal. I explained it in my opening thread.
Thanks.
I attached 2 pictures that might help.

What does this mean? Did you create any links to point to Moodle?

This is the URL after testuser logs in
thelearningweb.me/index.php?Itemid=101
This is the Joomla home page where he logged in. http;//thelearningweb.me is Joomla home page where he logged in. He does not see Moodle
Moodle's login url is mathedventure.net/ or mathedventure.net/login/index.php
thelearningweb.me and mathedventure.net are separate domains although they are in the same folder (public_html) on the server. thelearningweb.me (joomla) is in a subfolder, mathedventure (moodle) is in the root.
As such, the learning web has 2 URLs.
1. thelearningweb.me
2. mathedventure.net/thelearningweb.me
Ideally, thelearningweb.me should be in the root and Moodle in the subfolder. That was what I wanted to know in my original first question: If this folder setup is alright.
Thanks.

He is not supposed to see Moodle after login. You need to link to Moodle in some way (course list, direct link, etc).

Thanks Antonio.....
I did not know I needed to add a my course module so that teststudent can see his course. I freaked out and requested my webhost (Siteground) to change the domain names for me so that the set up is standard with joomla in the root and moodle in a folder. I lost my joomla articles as a result of that change.
However, I am now comfortable with the new folder structure, I won't have to suspect that folder structures and domain names are the cause of future problems. Much better this way.
I managed to get the SSO working again and this time added a course module link. I discovered however that student profile (first name, last name) must be input properly before a student can access the course in which he is registered.
I did one thing though................moodle has criteria for passwords and usernames like for example, a password must contain a capital letter and a numeric value and the username has to contain all small caps and a number etc. If I create a user in Joomla without following these Moodle rules, I am not sure if the user will be signed into Moodle. I did not try.....Too worried that it might break my beautiful set up!
I carefully make sure I follow all the rules of Moodle when setting up user names and passwords in Joomla.
Thanks for the help.....I'm new in all this. And I have the tendency to freak out.

If Joomdle is working fine, that info should be transfered to Moodle on registration (you need to register in joomla with name and surname, so they can be passed to Moodle).
Also, you will need to fill city and country, which are mandatory in Moodle. For that, you can use any of the supported extensions.
As for password: it does not matter, password in not used in Moodle for Joomdle users.
