Trouble installing Joomdle was created by Simon C
Hi,

I'm new to Joomdle, and I'm having trouble installing it.

I'm starting with a completely fresh installation of Joomla 3.4 and Moodle 2.9, installed alonside each other in their own sub-folders from a common web root. Joomla and Moodle were both installed without any difficulties at all, and both sites both work fine.

* I've gone through the preparation steps, ie activating Moodle's XMLRPC web service, setting up the web service user and permissions, etc. No problem here (although it would be nice if Joomdle could do some of those steps automatically; maybe a request for a future version)

* I've downloaded the main Joomdle zip file and unzipped it. The zip file I have is joomdle_v1.0.2-for-joomla30-UNZIP-FIRST.

* But I've hit a problem trying to install the plugin into Moodle.
In Moodle 2.9, I go to Administration / Plugins / Install Plugins. I then drag+drop the auth_joomdle.zip file into the installer page and hit the install button.
The first error I get is "Unable to detect the plugin type. Please choose the plugin type manually." I get a drop-list containing a bunch of plugin types. I googled this error, and the advice I got from Moodle.org was that if you get this error and you don't know what to pick, then pick "Local Plugin". I didn't know if this was the right thing to do, but I tried it.
Moodle then tried to install the plugin. But unfortunately, it then hit another error:
Error English language file name mismatch The given plugin type is missing the expected English language file local_joomdle.php.
At this point, it didn't give me an option to continue.
So I haven't been able to install the Joomdle auth plugin. The enrol_joomdle.zip plugin gives identical results.

On the Joomla side, I was able to make more progress. The main Joomla plugin installed successfully, and I was able to follow the instructions to get it configured. But without the Moodle side working, I obviously can't actually use it.

Can you advise what I'm doing wrong on the Moodle side? It seems to me like the plugin isn't compatible with Moodle. Could it be that it doesn't work well Moodle 2.9? Do I need to move to an older version?

Any advice would be greatfully received. Thank you.

Hi.

You need to select auth plugin instead of local plugin to install auth_joomdle.zip

Hi. Thanks for replying.

Ah, yes. That's obvious really. :P

I did look for an Auth option, but I didn't see it before -- I must have just missed it (the list of types isn't sorted alphabetically, which didn't help).

Anyway, yes. Now that I've found it, I have managed to install successfully. Thank you.

Hi Antonio,
I have the same issue as the OP. SO I followed the instructions you gave (choosing auth for the plugin type). However, unlike the OP, my plugin still didn't work. I received a new error:

Validating auth_joomdle ... Error
[Error] Plugin does not declare its component name [null]
Installation aborted due to validation failure

I will look elsewhere in the forums for this error BUT since this is the second in a string of errors, I'm concerned there is more wrong here and I'd like to handle the issue before it cascades into other problems. Can you help, please?

Thank you,
Laurie

PS - I did go through the prerequisites for installing Joomdle. I have a Joomla site completely configured (a JoomlaXTC template). I just finished installing and configuring Moodle (using the BCU responsive template for all viewports). I checked to make sure that XML/RPC was loaded. It is. I'm about to make another backup (I made one prior to my Joomla update to 3.5.1). So, I'm not sure what else I can do to make these two packages load in Moodle. I'm working with the auth and enrol plugins included in he moodle2 folder. After this, I have to install the other 9 modules that I purchased but I think those are all on the Joomla side.

It seems you are trying to install an old version of Joomdle auth plugin. Use the package that comes with Joomdle 1.0.5, which fixes that problem.
